Guide Overview (Quick Start)

Step 1: Install Private Disk and set your master password.
Step 2: Create a locker, set a strong password, and choose suitable size.
Step 3: Open the locker and move sensitive files into the mounted private drive.
 
Tip: Keep one backup copy of critical locker files on another trusted disk.

How to install Private Disk?

Download GiliSoft Private Disk from the button below.
After downloading, please run the setup file, then follow the wizard to complete installation.
Set your Private Disk account password the first time you run the program.
 
Note: Keep your password in a safe place. You cannot open Private Disk without it. Use a password manager if needed.

How to create a locker on a local disk?

Before encrypting files, create a private locker first. This locker is your encrypted workspace.
Click "Encrypt Files - Create Locker".
Enter the name and path of the Locker you want to create.
Set and confirm a strong password for the locker. Use at least 10 characters with mixed letters, numbers, and symbols.
Choose a maximum size that can accommodate future file additions. Leave enough headroom for growth.
Your locker has been created successfully.

How to open a locker on a local disk?

Click "Encrypt Files - Open Locker".
Enter the password to open the selected locker. After unlocking, it appears as a mounted private drive.

How to edit a locker on a local disk?

Before editing a locker, close it, select it, and then click "Edit Locker".
To rename a locker, click "Rename Locker", enter the password, and set a new name.
To change password, click "Change Password", verify the old password, then set a new one.
To copy, move, or delete a locker, click "Copy Locker", "Move Locker", or "Delete Locker". Keep at least one backup before major changes.

How to protect USB & External Drive?

Password protect your USB drive by storing files in portable, encrypted, self-executable lockers. Click "Protect USB - Protect USB Drive".
To create a new portable Locker in my USB Drive, please choose "Create a new portable locker" click Next to enter the name and path of the portable Locker you want to create.
To make an existing locker portable, choose "Make my existing locker portable", then click Next to convert and copy it to your USB drive.

How to Protect CD & DVD Media?

Burn lockers to CD or DVD media and make them executable. Click "Protect USB - Protect CD/DVD".
Choose a locker you want to burn and make portable. Select your existing Locker file to burn on your CD/DVD. Once done, click Next button.

How to Protect Email Attachment?

Password protect and compress important files for email attachments. Click "Attachment".
These files will be packaged as a password-protected ZIP. Click Next to continue.

How to Hide Files/Folder?

Choose a file or folder, then set a password to hide it.

How to Disguise Folder?

Choose a folder and set a password to disguise it as Recycle Bin, Printer, Network Dial-Up, Network Neighborhood, Control Panel, or Management Tools. This helps reduce accidental exposure on shared PCs.

Use unique passwords for your account and high-value lockers.
Back up locker files regularly to a second trusted drive.
Close and unmount lockers before unplugging USB or external disks.
On shared PCs, combine locker protection with hide/disguise features.

Common Issues and Fixes

Cannot open locker: Check password, file path, and permission.
Not enough space: Free space or create a larger locker and migrate files.
USB locker missing: Reconnect the drive and verify letter/path changes.
